Pot roasts cook to perfection in a slow cooker. The all day slow simmering works magic on inexpensive cuts of meat, and turns them into a carnivore’s sheer joy. While pot roasts, along with fried chicken, are classic Sunday supper fare it’s nice to take them beyond the expected flavor combination from time to time. Variety is the spice of life, right? This roast is smothered with classic Italian herbs and seasoned tomatoes. Serve on warmed hoagie rolls and it’s meal time in no-time.

Helpful Tips or Slow Cooking Italian Beef

  • If you’d like to go the extra mile, season the roast and brown it on the stovetop in oil prior to placing it into the slow cooker. If there’s no time to do so, rest assured it will still be delicious.
  • Italian seasoned tomatoes typically come seasoned with garlic, oregano and basil. I took this into consideration when I mention the amounts for the other ingredients.
  • If you don’t have Italian seasoned tomatoes, you’ll need to adjust the amounts of seasonings to accommodate for the missing flavors.
  • These beef hoagies are delicious finished simply with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. After assembling the hoagies, you could also top them with mozzarella, fontina or provolone cheese and melt under the oven broiler.
  • Serve on warm, steamed hoagie rolls or hoagie rolls that have been buttered and toasted, the choice is yours.
  • While this beef is designed for sandwiches, you may also serve this roast alongside mashed potatoes with roasted asparagus, or over your favorite cooked pasta with a wedge salad.
