The travel guide will be co-authored by Laurie Woolever

Anthony Bourdain was working on a new book when he died, which will be published by Ecco later this year. World Travel: An Irreverent Guide is described as part memoir part guidebook, where “a life of experience is collected into an entertaining, practical, fun and frank travel guide that gives readers an introduction to some of his favorite places — in his own words.” The book will also include essays from friends and family.

World Travel, illustrated by Tony Millionaire, was largely written before Bourdain’s death, according to co-author Laurie Woolever, Bourdain’s longtime assistant. “It’s been my honor and pleasure to create a book that includes stories from his loved ones and colleagues,” she told People. “I was lucky to work closely with Tony for nearly a decade, and I’m so pleased to be able to share his reflections and insights about the world, as he saw it, in this guide.”

The book announcement came shortly after the death of Bourdain’s mother, Gladys Bourdain, who was 85.

World Travel: An Irreverent Guide will be published on October 13.
