Easy Olive Oil Bread Dip Recipe

Making olive oil dip is one of those easy little kitchen wins that just feels fancy with very little effort. You start with a good olive oil in a shallow bowl, sprinkle in your favorite herbs and seasonings, delicious garlic and Parmesan cheese, and give it a quick mix.

Then comes the best part, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar added to the top adds a tangy sweetness that makes the whole thing taste like it came straight from your favorite Italian restaurant. We like to grab a warm loaf of crusty bread or freshly baked focaccia, tear off a piece, and dip away. It’s ridiculously simple and always a crowd-pleaser with or without, a glass of wine.

Recipe Variations, Tips and Substitutions

  • Oil –  Extra virgin olive oil is classic but you could also an alternative high-quality oil, melted butter or vegetable oil.
  • Seasonings – You could use dry oregano and dry basil in place of the dry Italian seasoning.
  • Cheese – You can use Parmesan cheese, Parmesan Reggiano cheese or Parmesan Romano cheese. You can also omit the cheese altogether.
  • Vinegar – I recommend drizzling the vinegar on top rather than mixing it into the olive oil. You could also use balsamic glaze for an even sweeter option.
  • Bulk Herb Preparation – You can easily multiply the dry seasonings and keep this handy in your pantry for quick and easy preparation. Store dried herbs for up to 6 months. (Omit fresh garlic, fresh parsley, Parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar adding these ingredients just before serving.)

Storage and Leftovers

  • Leftovers – Once the ingredients are fully combined, you can store this olive oil in an airtight container chilled in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Due to the fresh garlic, I don’t recommend storing it longer. Bring to room temperature and give it a good stir just before for serving.
  • Shelf Life for Seasoning Blend – If you prefer to make only the dry seasoning blend, minus the fresh parsley, Parmesan cheese and fresh minced garlic, you can! Store it in a spice jar or airtight container for up to 6 months and add the fresh garlic, fresh parsley, Parmesan and balsamic vinegar just before serving.
